SBVC Becomes Highest-Funded College in Statewide Clean Energy Project

San Bernardino Valley College has received a $188,239 grant from the California Energy Commission for alternative fuel projects, and will use the funds to buy equipment, expand curriculum, and provide professional development for faculty members. The California Energy Commission distributed a total of $1.2 million to seven community colleges, with SBVC receiving the largest award. The grants are part of the commission’s Clean Transportation Training Project, an initiative that funds for-credit alternative fuel and vehicle technical training courses and programs. Over the next year, SBVC will update its advanced automotive and alternative fuel vehicle curriculum, specifically addressing the needs of local businesses that will want to hire students when they are finished with their degrees and certificates. SBVC offers courses that prepare students for the ASE Alternate Fuels Test and curriculum that advances their skills so they are ready for immediate employment. At a later date, members of the California Energy Commission will visit SBVC to officially award the grant and receive an update on how the funding has been used.
