The SBCCD Asian Pacific Islander Association made history in May by
organizing a series of events for API Heritage Month, a first in SBVC history. The events, from movie nights to discussions, highlighted the “voices of activists, the LGBTQIA community, young voices, experienced voices, and voices from our own SBVC community,” according to SBCCD API Association President Bethany Tasaka. Some of the events included “Educational Equity and Justice” with Dr. Daniel Soodjinda and “Out of the Closet and into Academia” with Dr. Dhruv Khurana. The API Association is already planning to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month in October and will resume meetings in August.
