SBVC’S Uniquely Abled Project Showcased on KVCR Program

Miguel Ortiz, instructor in the Machinist Technology Department of SBVC, was recently highlighted in KVCR’s Inland Edition. Launched in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, Inland Edition aims to provide information from community leaders, officials, and experts on everything from health to education, housing, nutrition, economics, and local resources in Inland Southern California. During an episode this summer, host Lillian Vasquez spoke with Dr. Ivan Rosenberg about how he founded the Uniquely Abled Project. Ortiz was featured in the segment to highlight SBVC’s partnership with the program, which focuses on creating career opportunities for students on the autism spectrum. Ortiz discussed how the project matches employers and careers with the right workers and prepares both to ensure a high success rate. Ortiz emphasized how now is the perfect time for people to sign up for machine technology classes, as “there’s such a big need for operators. It’s only a matter of time when the manufacturers notice where that talent is and they’re going to be coming for our students.”
